The biggest selling album of 2012 in the Disunited Kingdom was the debut album by Emeli Sandé, “Our version of events”. I have been listening quite a bit to this album for the last two weeks via one of the on-line streaming services, and I have to say it is in my opinion a fantastic album, with some truly great songs on it. Some of you may also remember that Sandé performed at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics.
Sandé was born in Sunderland in the North of England. Her father is from Zambia and her mother is English. They met at university in Sunderland. Sandé grew up in Aberdeenshire in Scotland, and did 4 years of a degree in medicine at Glasgow University before deciding to concentrate full-time on her singing career.
Here is a YouTube clip of her lovely song “Read all about it, part 3” with the lyrics.
Here is Sandé performing the same song at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. The clip includes some very moving footage of athletes’ triumphs (and tragedies) at the London 2012 games (if the clip below doesn’t play, try following this link).
