Here are some photos of Gambia that I took when I visited there in January 2008 with my wife. This was my first ever trip to Africa, later the same year we visited Morocco. Given how close Gambia is to the equator, it is hot throughout the whole year, and certainly in January it was much hotter than it ever gets here in Wales.
We stayed in a hotel near the Senegambia tourist strip, which is about half an hour from the capital Banjul. During our stay we spent most of the week relaxing, but on one day during our week there we took a very interesting trip up the Gambia river to the town of Jufureh, purportedly the village from where Kunte Kinte in the American TV Series Roots came; and James Island, which was used by the slave traders to imprison slaves prior to their being sent to the Americas.
